About the Scholarship

AIA Alaska has had a scholarship program since 2000, and has awarded scholarships of up to $4,000 per year to deserving students who live in Alaska but must pursue an architectural education at universities outside our state. As you know, this requires the payment of non-resident tuition, the cost of books, studios, and travel. No amount is too small!

In 2023, our Northern Design savings and the Ken Maynard Memorial Scholarship Fund balance was combined, and at the end of 2024 it was transferred to the Alaska Community Foundation, who will manage our funds for us as a non-endowed charitable scholarship fund.

We have sent notifications to all the accredited architecture schools that we have on our list asking them to pass this info along to any Alaska resident 3rd or 4th year students enrolled in an architect program. If you could, please pass along this scholarship opportunity to students and interns that you know within your firms/community/family.

Students

Each year, the student application period for the scholarship opens on January 15th, and applications are due by March 15th.  Students that are awarded a scholarship will receive it for the Fall semester (start of school year).

Thank you for Supporting our Future

It is finally official after years of discussions and research; the Kenneth D. Maynard Memorial College Scholarship program is now setup and active with the Alaska Community Foundation (ACF). The program is currently setup as a non-endowed fund, but when we get the account balance above $50k it will transition to an endowed fund. With the scholarship program setup with ACF, all donations are now tax deductible.

Lower your tax liabilities on IRA required minimum distributions (RMDs) by philanthropic giving to the scholarship fund – your support is very much appreciated and goes a long way with contributing to the development of future Architects for Alaska!
